Some questions have arisen about the recent increase in the SCUF (Student Computer Usage Fee) and Cdigix.

Last year the SGA Senate passed a resolution asking that the Board of Governors raise the SCUF by up to $10, primarily to pay for a music downloading service. The senate also asked that, if some of the $10 fee increase were not spent on music downloading, its next priority would be expanding wireless internet access (WI-FI) on campus.

After a public bidding process was conducted, a bid from Cdigix was accepted. The university pays $2 per month for each student who uses the service. This means that there will be extra money from the SCUF increase, and the SGA has asked the administration to study the most effective ways of expanding wireless coverage with the resources that we now have. Any SCUF money that is not spent on either music downloading or WI-FI will be spent on such things as computer labs and student printing services, through the SCUF allocation process outlined here.
